The rest of the Battalion and the Brigade have moved in. We can’t shoot the mortars anymore, Brigade Artillery has taken over and they’re so slow at clearing fires we can’t shoot. Its total bullshit according to Sarnt Spear, he hates artillery with a white hot passion. We just got word that half of the platoon is moving south of the Euphrates to a COP, Company Out Post. It’ll be us and half of Delta Company. We got a warning order but no details.
We’ve been surrounded by embedded journalists since we got here. One actually rode with us on the last mission. Sarnt Spear threatened to shoot them himself if they turned on a white light or pissed him off in any other way. I think they were scared to do anything, Sarnt Spear sounded pretty serious to me. The LT and the reporter were butt-hurt but Sarnt Spear didn’t give a damn. He say’s they’re all communists and oughta be killed anyway. Except for LTC Oliver North, according to Sarnt Spear LTC North stood by Reagan’s side during some Iran-Contra shit and is a paragon of Americanism. You might know more about that than I do.
Some dweebs from Battalion HQ came through camp yesterday looking for this Newsweek reporter. They found him and rushed him off the FOB. We found out the next day what was up. That sorry piece of shit had been with a group of terrorists while they attacked an American convoy. He didn’t make the first effort to warn anyone, he wanted to present the story from the terrorists point of view. He filmed them while they shot the shit out of a bunch of loggies hauling food and mail and other such shit. They got him off of the FOB just before we heard about the story that was published in Newsweek magazine. I hope to hell that if he hadn’t been taken off the FOB he’d have been killed. He deserves it.
The LT’s gunner got a kill yesterday. The LT has a Mark 19 40mm grenade launcher on his vehicle, that’s a bad assed weapon but not the equal of the Ma Deuce. Anyway, they were leading a convoy through Fallujah yesterday and got shot up right on main street. The fire was coming from the hotel and the convoy returned fire from everything available. The LT was in the lead and someone started to run across the road in front of them. Haji might have been trying to close the route to run away from the attack so the LT gave the fire command… “Gunner, 12 o’clock 75 meters, when ready.” Sarnt Lopez was on the gun, he said one of the rounds from his burst hit the Haji in his chest and vaporized it but the dudes legs kept runnin across the road till they tripped on the curb and fell into the median. Poor terrorist asshole, f*ck ‘im.
I’ll let you know what’s up with the move when I find out. Take care of yourselves.
