This song was written in the 1950s by an Irishman named Behan, who had friends in the IRA. It was a much requested song by IRA members, and recorded by the Clancy Brothers, Joan Baez, and others, as well as the Kingston Trio in the early 60s.

Zulu War, 1879. Rorke’s Drift was small station with a missionary hospital. 150 soldiers, including hospital patients defended the station against 3000-4000 Zulus. Eleven Victoria Crosses were awarded to the defenders, along with a number of other decorations and honours. Continue Reading →
